Hunters register 68,401 deer during first weekend #TravelSuperior

DNR Deer Season 2015

MINNESOTA ----  November 15, 2015  ----  Minnesota firearms hunters registered 68,401 deer during the first three days of firearms deer season, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

“Hunters are seeing more deer this year as we continue to build deer populations across much of the state,” said Steve Merchant, wildlife populations and regulations program manager. “We’ve issued a conservative number of antlerless deer permits, and because of this, many hunters are seeing deer they can’t shoot. However, patience this year should translate to more harvest opportunities in the future.”

OFAH calls for better black bear management - Thursday, June 4, 2015

OFAH calls for better black bear management #LSNoutdoors

 Black Bear Management Needed

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ---  June 3, 2015 ---- Black bear incidents in Southern Ontario highlight the need for improved black bear management. Media coverage is extensive when black bears are seen in heavily urbanized areas, but these types of situations are a common occurrence for many people in Ontario.

Many people are suggesting that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is at fault for the increase in human/bear conflicts and/or how they are dealt with, but the calls for fully restoring the Bear Wise program to its former level will not solve the problem. There is significant evidence that showed the Bear Wise trap and transfer program was unsuccessful and an unjustifiable use of limited resources needed for wildlife management. What we need is better management of black bears.

Too much fun in the Twin Cities for just a weekend #TravelSuperior

Target Field Travel Lake Superior

MINNEAPOLIS-ST PAUL, Minnesota/ Troy Media/ - Minneapolis - St Paul is just a 6.5 hour drive south of Thunder Bay, Ontario. There is a small restaurant-bar right in the middle of downtown Minneapolis called The Keys at the Foshay. The pies are to die for. Breakfast is a feast. And after a ball game at Target Field or a basketball game at Target Center, there is no better place for a late night snack.

The Keys is one of a handful or bar/restaurants in downtown Minneapolis near the theatre district, the baseball stadium and the basketball arena that make an evening in the heart of the Twin Cities something special.

Of course, when you stop and think about everything Minneapolis-St. Paul and the surrounding communities provides for a Canadian visitor, it’s difficult to make a weekend work. It’s just not long enough. Like Chicago, once you get into it, you never want to leave.
