The Trans-Superior race was thought out between Duluth Sailor Jack Soetebier and
DR. John Pierpont, from White Pine, Michigan. The two men set up the race more as a challenge to themselves as well as other Lake Superior sailors. The race is a 338 nautical Mile race from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Duluth, MN. It is held every odd year and is sponsored by the Lake Superior Yachting Association in conjuction with the Duluth Yacht Club and the Algoma Sailing Club in Sault Ste. Marie
The Trans Superior International Yacht Race starts in the vicinity of Gros Cap Light in
Whitefish Bay, near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and finishes near the entrance to the Duluth Ship Canal in Duluth, Minnesota. Yachts are required to leave Copper Harbor, Michigan to port. Yachts may pass through or around the Apostle Islands. The official race distance is 338 Nautical Miles.
The exact starting line will be announced at the skippers’ meeting on Friday, August 2nd, 2013 at 1700 hrs (EDT). All boats must monitor VHF Channel 68 for race start communications.

TRANS SUPERIOR SCHEDULE:
August 2, Friday:
o Skippers’ Meeting at 1700 (EDT) hrs at the Algoma Sailing Club, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario with social to follow.
August 3, Saturday:
o Early morning fleet lock-through will be arranged at the Soo Locks. There may be multiple lock-through times for fast and slow on both the Canadian and American sides.
August 4, Sunday:
o Race Headquarters in Duluth opens at 1000 (CDT) hrs at a location to be determined. Race Headquarters will remain open until Wednesday, August 7th at 1800 (CDT) hrs. The phone number for race headquarters will be posted on the website http://www.TransSuperior.com/ one week before the race. However this number will not be active until 1000 hrs (CDT) August 4th, 2013.
August 11, Thursday:
o Trans Superior Race Awards Party, 5 PM CDT. Cocktails and dinner at a location to be determined in Duluth.
The Lake Superior Circle Tour in northern Wisconsin (highway 13), loops around Lake Superior state highways in the US states of Michigan, Minnesota (highway 61) and Wisconsin and provincial highways in the Canadian province of Ontario (highway 17). These highways are usually the closest to the lake.
