MADISON, WISCONSIN  ~~~~~~  July 11, 2021  (LSN)  A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation biologist has found the “holy grail” of a rare plant in Wisconsin: A green violet long thought gone from the state, but growing by the hundreds in a State Natural Area (SNA) in west central Wisconsin.

At that time, wildlife managers in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky began receiving reports of sick and dying birds with eye swelling and crusty discharge, as well as neurological signs.

COOK COUNTY,  MINNESOTA  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   July 6, 2021  (LSN)  Deer ticks, also known as blacklegged ticks, are just one of thirteen known tick species in Minnesota. They are most common in the east and central areas of the state and are found in hardwood forests and wooded and brushy areas. Deer ticks are potential carriers of Lyme disease, human anaplasmosis and babesiosis.

SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~   July 1, 2021  (LSN)  The EPA's floating laboratory ~ Lake Guardian~  was spotted upbound in St. Mary's River North Channel.

The incredible looking vessel, Lake Guardian was spotted upbound in St. Mary's River, The North Channel, Sailor's Encampment, St. Joseph Island, Ontario on June 23rd, 2021 at 2:24 pm.  Looking across the St. Mary's River, is Upper Peninsula Michigan at Neebish.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~  July 1, 2021  (LSN)   Lake Superior and Lake Michigan-Huron water levels are above their respective long-term averages. Therefore, there is a risk of shoreline erosion, lakeshore flooding, and coastal damages. The International Lake Superior Board of Control (Board) advises shoreline businesses and property owners to prepare for potentially severe coastal impacts during periods of strong winds and high waves. Lake Superior outflows are set in consideration of the above-average levels upstream and downstream.

NORTHERN, ONTARIO   ~~~~~~  June 30, 2021  (LSN)  Due to the high to extreme forest fire hazard, effective 12:01 am Wednesday June 30, the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry has implemented a Restricted Fire Zone in the Kenora, Fort Frances and Dryden Districts, and southern portions of Sioux Lookout and Red Lake Districts.  The Restricted Fire Zone will be in effect until further notice. Outdoor fires are banned. Portable gas stoves may still be used BUT must be handled with extreme care.

NORTHERN, ONTARIO   ~~~~~~~~   June 29, 2021  (LST)    Today, Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation, Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and MPP for Nipissing, and Corina Moore, President and CEO of Ontario Northland Transportation Commission announced that Ontario Northland will be resuming all regularly scheduled motor coach routes and adding two new stops in Toronto effective July 4, 2021.

APOSTLE, ISLANDS, WISCONSIN  ~~~~~~~ June 28, 2021  (LSN)   The brains behind the SeaCavesWatch.org website have developed a new website that offers real-time wave condition information for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Lake Superior. Before venturing onto the lake, paddlers and boaters should check WISC-Watch (https://go.wisc.edu/7y2x4o), which stands for Water Information for a Safe Coast Watch. The WISC-Watch site provides information from seven spotter buoys recently deployed throughout the islands, plus Chequamegon Bay near Ashland and Siskiwit Bay near Cornucopia. The buoys monitor wave height, water temperature and wind information.
