THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~ June 25, 2022 (LSNews) The Friends of Chippewa Park today announced the details of Family Fest 101, their August long weekend celebration to mark the hundredth anniversary plus one of the park. The event will feature more than 55 musical performers, refreshments, amusement rides, water and beach activities, special fun for the kids, games, and theatre performances.
A broad range of Thunder Bay and area musicians, comedians, and other entertainers will be showcased over the five days. There will be something for all musical tastes, from rock, folk, Indigenous and jazz to blues, classical, and ethnic. Headliners will include Ian Tamblyn, Daylin James, the Sensational Hot Rods, and the Damones cover band, Psycho Therapy. These performers will be joined by such favourites as Shy-Anne Bartlett, Sunday Wilde, Robin Ranger, J.C. Campbell, Nadjiwon, The Lockyer Boys, Rodney Brown, Flipper Flanagan’s Flat Footed Four and the Macgillivray Pipe Band among many others.
The organizers said that this will be an event for all ages. A children's festival hosted by Our Kids Count will be held on site with a fish derby, games, kids’ activities, and musical entertainment. The amusement rides will be operating including the park’s heritage carousel. RV and tenting sites will be available. Food, refreshments, and merchandise will be offered for sale on site.
Festival co-chair, Cathy Sawicki said that staging the event in an outdoor setting will help to ensure that people feel safe while at the same time having fun and enjoying being with family and friends.
“People want to get together and enjoy the company of others, take in some concerts, sample some great food and beverages – in short, to begin to have fun together again. Holding Family Fest 101 in such an expansive venue as Chippewa Park will enable them to do all this but in a way that feels secure”, she said.
