Learning Opportunities Abound
Grand Marais, MN –North House Folk School’s 16th annual Wooden Boat Show, June 21-23, brings 
boats, speakers, great food and many opportunities to learn. Watch a boat take shape before your eyes, hear inspiring speakers, take a mini course, and head out onto the big lake on Schooner Hjørdis.
This year we’re offering five two-hour mini course options on Saturday, June 22, for only $25 each. They're great opportunities to get a taste of what we do at North House and have a great hands-on experience! Fly fishing, bread baking, maritime history and storytelling are all on the 
schedule.
Boat building more your style? See Wood Canvas Canoe builder Jeanne Bourquin in action as she builds a boat and speaks on Canvassing a Wood Canoe, and join North House instructor Lindsay Lee to find out what a coracle is, and see one built from beginning to end over the weekend. Additionally, all weekend we’ll have a boat display on campus, and many of the boat builders are standing by, eager to talk about their craft.
Also eager to share their story, Dave and Amy Freeman
of Wilderness Classroom are this year’s featured speakers. The couple just completed their 11,700 mile North American Odyssey. The Freemans will speak on Sunday about their human (and dog) powered journey—they kayaked, canoed, and dog sledded across the continent over the course of three years.
Other public programs include a speaker series spanning the weekend, with presentations on outdoor expeditions and boatbuilding, plus craft demonstrations and the Summer Solstice Pageant. Also on the schedule are all the Wooden Boat Show favorites, including the Boat Parade on the Harbor, Sunday Steambent Brunch, Chowder Chowdown, Contra Dance and the Boats-to-Tools Auction.
