MADISON, WISCONSIN ~~~~~~ May 14, 2021 (LSN) The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting the 9th annual Free Fun Weekend June 5-6. Park admission fees, fishing licenses and trail passes will be waived for Wisconsinites to find their adventure outdoors.
Wisconsin is home to 49 state parks, 15 state forests, 44 state trails, 84,000 miles of rivers and streams, roughly 15,000 lakes and so much more. Before heading to a state park, trail or waterbody near you, here are some helpful things to know:

Real-time wave information expands for paddlers and boaters in the Apostle Islands
APOSTLE, ISLANDS, WISCONSIN ~~~~~~~ June 28, 2021 (LSN) The brains behind the SeaCavesWatch.org website have developed a new website that offers real-time wave condition information for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Lake Superior. Before venturing onto the lake, paddlers and boaters should check WISC-Watch (https://go.wisc.edu/7y2x4o), which stands for Water Information for a Safe Coast Watch. The WISC-Watch site provides information from seven spotter buoys recently deployed throughout the islands, plus Chequamegon Bay near Ashland and Siskiwit Bay near Cornucopia. The buoys monitor wave height, water temperature and wind information.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~~ July 1, 2021 (LSN) Lake Superior and Lake Michigan-Huron water levels are above their respective long-term averages. Therefore, there is a risk of shoreline erosion, lakeshore flooding, and coastal damages. The International Lake Superior Board of Control (Board) advises shoreline businesses and property owners to prepare for potentially severe coastal impacts during periods of strong winds and high waves. Lake Superior outflows are set in consideration of the above-average levels upstream and downstream.

SEAWAY VISITORS’ CENTER OPENS JULY 2, 2021
MASSENA, NEW YORK ~~~~~~~~~~ June 26, 2021 (LSN) The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (GLS) is announcing that the Dwight D. Eisenhower Visitors’ Center, located at the U.S. Eisenhower Lock in Massena, NY, will open to the public on a limited basis on Friday, July 2. It will remain open daily, including weekends, through Labor Day, September 6, 2021. The hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
Hovland 15th Annual Summer Sale
HOVLAND, MINNESOTA ~~~~~~~ June 3, 2021 (LSN) his Summer the Hovland Art Festival will be celebrating it's 15th years. July 3 & 4th.
Every year since conception each festival’s wonderful live music lineup has been provided for by local musicians. With the summer festival being held indoors and out the first festival’s music was performed outdoors in the open subject to any and all wild elements. After that a big tent was rented to shelter these performances. This past summer the festival folks were thrilled to use for the first time the new pavilion that was recently built out back of the town hall.

COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ July 6, 2021 (LSN) Deer ticks, also known as blacklegged ticks, are just one of thirteen known tick species in Minnesota. They are most common in the east and central areas of the state and are found in hardwood forests and wooded and brushy areas. Deer ticks are potential carriers of Lyme disease, human anaplasmosis and babesiosis.
DNR invites public review of updated David Dill/Arrowhead State Trail master plan
COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~~~~~~~~ June 28, 2021 (LST) The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites the public to an open house to review and comment on an updated master plan for the David Dill-Arrowhead State Trail in St. Louis and Koochiching counties.
The open house will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 7 at the Cook Community Center, located at 510 Gopher Drive, Cook, MN, 55723. The public is invited to attend the open house to review the plan, ask questions and submit comments. No formal presentation will be made.
