Marie border, Grand Portage, and International Falls COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~~~~~~ May 27, 2021 (LSN) U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations reminds travelers planning trips across the Detroit, Port Huron and Sault Ste. Marie border crossings that the border remains open only to essential travel and cross border trade activity during the Memorial Day weekend. This advisory includes pleasure boaters out on waterways attempting to cross the border on Michigan’s waterways. In addition, small boating reporting locations continue to remain closed until further notice. Essential Travel into the United States includes, but is not limited to; U.S. Citizens and Lawful permanent residents returning to the United States Individuals traveling to the United States for medical purposes (e.g. to receive medical treatment in the U.S.) Individuals traveling to conduct essential work in the United States Individuals traveling for emergency response and public health purposes Individuals engaged in lawful cross-border trade Individuals engaged in official government travel or diplomatic travel Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their spouses and children of members of the U.S. Armed Forces, returning to the United States Individuals engaged in military-related travel or operations #LSN_PublicSafety #LSN_HomelandSecurity U.S. Customs and Border Protection U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry.
